Cross Country by Haihana
“Its greens turn” Mrs Simeon shouted. I stood by room two waving the flag. Green team got onto the court and lined up. We were all loud and proud to be in the green team with our faces with green words and symbols on us. We walked around the court saying our chant. I heard the crowd laughing because our chant was hilarious.
After the parade we walked over to the farm where we would race.Massimo and I got into a little conversation.
“Massimo are you racing” I asked
“Nah because I can't race with the stitches in my chin the doctor said ” he replied
As we slowly made it to the farm, Mrs Paraha told us to sit on the tarpaulin and not to stand. I sat down and watched the five year olds getting ready to race. After them went the six year olds and so forth. After sitting on the tarpaulin for what it felt like hours, I got up and did some stretching because the year 8’s were next.
“Are you all ready?” said Whaea Rosina.
“YES!!!” we all shouted.
“On your marks, get set, GO!!!” Whaea Rosina shouted,
I took off a little bit slow. I saw Esmonde right up the front sprinting like a bullet. I speed up because I heard everyone cheering for us. I passed Tipi and Jade. I felt my heart pumping as fast as a train. I caught up to Harlym and Te Ari Jack around the corner by the fence next to Mr Lindsay and passed them which put me in third place. I already felt my stomach tighten up as I was coming up onto the hill. Esmonde just came down the hill and said “Good on you Haihana”
I responded back saying “you too”
I saw Journey right in front of me. We both sprinted down the hill around all the corners and finished our first lap.
“Run Haihana!!!” Mrs Simeon shouted
She tried to encourage me to come second place or third. I started picking my pace up. Journey was right next to me. We jogged up the hill around the cones and through the paddock. I saw the finish line up ahead. I heard Massimo and everyone screaming and saying Go Haihana and Journey. I sprinted really fast as I could. But Journey just passed me and made it into second place. I came third. I sat down huffing and puffing and thought to myself that I did better than I expected.
To sum up I was Happy and proud to have run and come third. I had fun and it was the best cross country.
